The Monstera Thai Constellation is a cultivar of the Monstera deliciosa plant, but it is a variegated form, meaning it has white or pale yellow splotches or streaks on the leaves in addition to the dark green color. These variegations are caused by a genetic mutation that results in a reduction of chlorophyll, the pigment that gives plants their green color. As a result, the variegated parts of the leaves are not able to photosynthesize as efficiently as the rest of the leaf, so they tend to be less vigorous and slower-growing than the non-variegated parts. Despite this, many people find the variegated leaves of the Monstera Thai Constellation to be highly attractive and seek them out as ornamental plants.
